Betrayal Stems from Prejudice & Negligence

It was the time of Board Examinations of 7th Semester when I saw a notice of an International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, which was going to be held in Bareilly, India on 26th and 27th April 2024. In this regard, City Campus Butwal-Lumbini Buddhist University issued a notice through its Facebook page on 2080-12-21(3rd April, 2024) by providing a deadline of one day. At that time, I was busy appearing for seventh semester board exams and was very much delighted and excited to hear and see about it.

A day after seeing the notice, I called the campus chief to know about it and he suggested me to call Suraj Muskaan to get my name noted and I acted accordingly.  As mentioned in the notice, two things were prominent i.e. Interested participants were given a time limit of only one day to note down their names and merely 30 people on behalf of the university were allowed to participate in the program. See the notice below:

Four days later, as per the source, I came to know that 45+ students had requested to include their names for the conference. Days were passing gradually & the board examination also came into an end. On the last day of the exam i.e. Cyber Law, I went to the campus to check the final list of students to be participated in the conference, but there was no information about it. Personally, I was working on self-development to present myself at the conference and on April 16, the campus suddenly issued another notice mentioning that the submission of seminar report within four days of the notice.

The Next day i.e. 17th April, I was all set to go to Rolpa to manage and attend my elder sister’s wedding ceremony because her wedding ceremony was scheduled for 19th April. Therefore, I headed to Rolpa on 17th April thinking that I would write my seminar paper after reaching home. On the same day I called the campus chief and inquired about the notice issued by the campus regarding the submission of seminar paper as the sentences used in the notice were a bit ambiguous especially as to what purpose the seminar paper should be presented i.e. for selection of participants or for presentation in an international conference? See the notice below:

In response to my query, he clarified to me that it was for the selection of participants and further said to contact Dr. Deepak Acharya and submit the paper. As per his instruction, I contacted Dr. Acharya via messenger and asked for his email address and started writing the paper on AI despite arranging and managing my elder sister’s wedding ceremony. And finally, I submitted my paper within the deadline i.e. 20th April (8th Baisakh,2081) and got a response from him. He suggested me to use citations, methodology, objectives, and so son whereas no format, citations, reference, word limit etc. mentioned in the notice. Indeed, while at home, it was very difficult to write the paper because of the internet problem and my internal affairs (Sister’s wedding). It was very difficult to manage both due to hectic schedule. Since NTC SIM didn’t work well there, I had to manage by requesting other’s mobile phone having Ncell SIM to search content/references of AI.

On 21st April (9th Baisakh,2081) I returned to Butwal, and called Assistant Lecturer Dr. Deepak Acharya on his cell number and the conversation lasted for about 12/13 minutes. In the mobile conversation, I felt he made cheap conversation on the phone by asking me whether I had been to India before or not, which was as a matter of fact not appropriate matter at all since the issue was related to a paper submitted to him. He further said that if I wanted to go, I had to go with the students of Tulsipur Metro College as there was no one (Representative from Lecturers) from Lumbini Buddhist University. After that I called Dean Prof. Dr. Hari Sharan Chakhun with the hope of knowing more and getting concrete answer about this matter. However, he feigned ignorance on the issue saying he was out.

On 23rd April, (11th Baisakh, 2081) I went to the Campus Chief’s office and met the Assistant Campus Chief Mr. Mohanlal Bhandari and knew that when I was not present in the campus, the campus had already recommended the names of two students. Seeing that, for a moment, I remained silent and asked him about it. He replied that those names had already been given to the concerned authority. At that moment, I felt a great betrayal. Well, this isn’t the first time I’ve endured such pain from campus. Similarly, another such negligence had been done by the campus administration that it had issued notice of viva of 7th semester on 28th and 29th April (16th and 17th of Baisakh. 2081), whereas on 26th and 27th, April there was a conference in Bareilly, India. How can an 8th semester students participate in both almost at the same time? Many students have guessed that the campus has issued deliberately the viva notice, I cannot say this with full confidence, but it can be assumed.

Well, I’m constantly on my way and doing my work as confidently and efficiently as I can. However, after entering this campus, I am experiencing many such shocking incidents. I may have made a mistake somewhere, but since I am a student, I think it is natural to make some mistakes, but institutions should not repeat negligence and mistakes time by time. I’m definitely not one to give up and fall down after 2/4 prejudices, hurts and betrayals.

Finally, I would like to thank the campus administration for teaching and making me understand a lot during these almost 5 years. Now there are only 1/1.5 years of campus life left. I have so many things to say and at the same time I have nothing to say.
